Me
As a fashion designer, I work with various companies on collections and projects or realize my own ideas until they are ready for sale, such as recently the imini®.
My “fashion bags” have been with me since 2012. Individual bags originally made from sequin fabric, now expanded by trendy print designs on high-quality cotton or seasonal limited editions.
No two bags are the same. They are unique pieces that are handmade in Cologne and therefore fairly “Made in Germany” without stock, but on request.

If even the sociologist Jean-Claude Kaufmann, 63, scientifically got to the bottom of the psychology of women’s handbags in his work Le sac: un petit monde d’amour, the importance of a handbag in a woman’s life should be clear. The term accessory is therefore completely inappropriate, because a bag is not something “incidental”. On the contrary, many women combine their wardrobe in the morning based on their bag or shoes.
Very often, buying a handbag is love at first sight. It is a moment of passion that later, in everyday life, develops into complicity. The focus is not necessarily on the label or brand. There are people who categorically reject this positioning. They don’t want to carry a brand with them and even consider it bourgeois or banal. Mostly these are women who don’t care about stars and logos, are looking for something special, the small craftsman from Italy, the vintage bag from the flea market or here with us:

A handbag certainly has to fulfill several lives or roles. The first life of the bag belongs to fashion and the associated choice of dressing. The second life of the handbag is connected to its owner. If the worst comes to the worst, you – women – want to be prepared. It starts quite banally with an umbrella and ends with pepper spray for self-defense. Women also think about having spare clothes in case they get stains somewhere and have their make-up with them to freshen up.
And yet, in addition to the practical everyday companions, there is always a little secret hidden inside every handbag – objects that almost develop a wild life of their own and for whose existence in the handbag there is no rational justification.
From the men’s point of view, these are incomprehensible mysteries, but the main thing is that his car keys, his wallet and his cell phone still find space in their handbags.

What’s the handle made of?
The handle is made of high-quality, genuine cowhide leather, carefully crafted by a leatherworker from the Allgäu region. Cowhide is a valuable byproduct of the meat industry, so it helps us make good use of the skin of the cows that have been killed anyway.
Where’s the sequin fabric from?
The premium sequin fabric is made in the EU, and I usually go for luxurious fabrics from Italy. The sequins are attached to a sturdy backing material, making them really durable and resistant. My oldest sequin bag is 13 years old and still has 95% of its sequins intact – the few that have fallen off over time are barely noticeable, and the bag is still in use.
What other materials are used, like the lining, straps, etc.?
The lining is made from about 98% organic cotton. The zipper and the interfacing used for the bag’s stability are 100% polyester, so is the felt for the small inner pocket. The decorative straps may vary, and are made from materials like polyester, cotton, or wool. The magnetic closure is made of iron.
Can sequin bags be worn with anything?
It’s important to note that sequins can be a bit sharp-edged and, with movement (like rubbing), they might pull threads on silk items or cause pilling on wool fabrics. So, I recommend pairing them with more durable fabrics.
Where are the bags made?
I personally craft the bags in Germany. Each one is a unique piece with special details in the interior.
Are the bags always the same size?
Since they’re handmade, the measurements can vary slightly by a few centimeters. The proportions are perfect for women between 170-180 cm tall. If you’d prefer a different size – smaller or larger – feel free to contact me, I will happily make a custom one just for you. Email me at mail@romea.de.
